JCB Academy

The school pupils and teachers are divided into three houses, named Bamford (after JCB founder Joseph Cyril Bamford), Arkwright (after industrialist Richard Arkwright) and Royce (after Rolls-Royce founder Henry Royce).

Sawtry Community College

St Andrews and St Judith are then split into 6 houses: Royce, Sinclair, Keynes, Darwin, Eliot and Clarkson.


Harmonic damper

Both Frederick Henry Royce and Frederick W. Lanchester have strong claims to the invention of the vibration damper, with the latest research showing Rolls-Royce using a crankshaft slipper (friction) vibration damper on their 1906 30HP models, however Royce had not submitted it for patent.
