Born in New York, Leonhardt graduated from Horace Mann School in Riverdale, New York in 1990, and then continued his studies at Jonathan Edwards College, Yale University, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in applied mathematics.
Rose attended New York City public schools and Horace Mann High School.
Despite childhood poverty, the young Tuck was admitted to the prestigious Lincoln School, associated with Columbia University, and later to Horace Mann School, an elite educational institution for the wealthy.
He attended Horace Mann School, and graduated in 1970 from Yale College, where he became friends with poets Steve Benson, Kit Robinson, Rodger Kamenetz, and Alex Smith and studied literature with A. Bartlett Giamatti and Harold Bloom and poetry with Ted Berrigan, Peter Schjeldahl, and Bill Berkson.
Attending The Horace Mann School and then The Dalton School in Manhattan, NY, as well as exploring all the museums, ballets, and art New York had to offer, Andrew developed a keen interest for the arts.
