In December 1995 the senior department was accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to teach the IB Diploma Programme; in 2003,to teach the IB Middle Years Programme, and the following year the junior department the IB Primary Years Programme.
During their first five years the students follow the IB Middle Years Programme or IBMYP and during their last two years they follow the IB Diploma Programme or IBDP.
Southbank Westminster offers the IB Middle Years Programme (grade 6 to 10) and the IB Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12).

In June 1996 MYP authorisation was achieved and this was followed in June 2000 by PYP authorisation.
It is also the only high school (as opposed to college) in the ACT to be part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), having gained IB membership in 2006.
