Like "March Madness," the phrase "Elite Eight" originally referred to the Illinois High School Boys Basketball Championship, the single-elimination high school basketball tournament run by the Illinois High School Association.


Ernie Kent

As a Class of 1973 senior, he was named Parade Magazine All-American, Scholastic All-America by Scholastic Magazine, Illinois High School Association (IHSA) All-State, received the American Legion Outstanding Achievement Award, and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Mary Mohler

She attended Rosary High School in Aurora, Illinois where she was best known for being the Illinois High School Association state champion for the 100 yard Butterfly from 1998 to 2001.

Thornridge High School

He led Thornridge to the 1972 IHSA state basketball championship, was co-captain of the 1976 national champion Indiana Hoosiers, won a gold medal in the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, and had a ten year NBA career, including membership on the 1984 NBA Champion Boston Celtics.

Willie May

As a coach, May led the Wildkits to 24 consecutive Central Suburban League conference championships from 1976 to 1999, five IHSA state trophies, and one state championship (1979).
