In 2004 he was a member of the committee on Water Resources Law of the International Law Association.

Hodson was a member of the International Court of Arbitration at The Hague between 1949 and 1971 and further president of the British branch of the International Law Association.
Over the years he was a member of a number of domestic and international organisations connected to the law, including the International Law Association from 1912–39, the Grotius Society of London from 1915–39, the American Society of International Law, other English and foreign Peace and International Law Societies, the Society of Comparative Legislation and Société de Législation Comparée of Paris and the Medico-Legal Society of London, 1915–38.
He was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (GBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours for his services to the International Law Association which he served as Chairman of the Executive Committee.
Currently, she is a member of the International Law Association Committee on International Human Rights Law and Practice; Editor-in-Chief of the Series "Refugees and Human Rights", published by Martinus Nijhoff, The Hague; and editor of Eye on the UN.
He was the founding President of the Pacific Islands Branch of the International Law Association (ILA), served on the ILA Committee on Compensation for Victims of War and has been a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the Centre for Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India and a Visiting Professor at Gujarat National Law University in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
