Arara people

They had peaceful encounters with outsiders along the Xingu and Iriri Rivers.

Brownish Elaenia

Downstream in the east, the bird's range starts at the confluence of the Xingu River in the south of Pará state, North Region, Brazil; it ranges upstream on the Xingu for 700 km, then a tributary to the west of the Xingu, the Rio Iriri, for another 700 km.

Panará people

In 1994 the tribe elders met with Xingu Park leaders and FUNAI to demand the right to move back to their original territory, and was eventually allowed 4,950 square kilometres from their ancient traditional territory along the Iriri River located on the border of Mato Grosso and Pará states.
