3 unusual facts about Itatiaia National Park


Brown Tanager

It is generally uncommon, but known from several protected areas, such as the Itatiaia National Park.

Buddleja longiflora

The species could be mistaken for B. speciosissima found in nearby Itatiaia, but for minor differences in flower and leaf dimensions.

Giuseppe Occhialini

During WW II, staying in Brazil, then a country hostile to Italy, he became an authorized alpine guide in the Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, where there is a peak named "Pico Occhialini".


Black-capped Piprites

It is known from a number of protected areas, including the Itatiaia National Park in Rio de Janeiro, and the Horto Florestal State Park near Campos do Jordão in São Paulo.
