The elder son, Iain David Charteris, Lord Elcho, was born in 1945 but died as the result of an accident in 1954; his younger brother, James Donald Charteris, Lord Neidpath (b. 22 June 1948), succeeded his father to the Earldoms in December 2008.
The ponds in the policies were recently restored by James Charteris, 13th Earl of Wemyss who took over the family estate and title in December 2008 when his father died.
Catherine Ingrid Guinness (b. 1 June 1952), who married 1stly 1983 (divorced 1988) James Donald Charteris, Lord Neidpath (b. 1948), only surviving son and heir of the Earl of Wemyss and March, by whom she has issue 1 son and 1 daughter.
