A fine stand of linden trees, planted by Bishop James Rogers, stands to the east of the basilica, in front of the palace.
Born in 1791, Rogers was the son of the Rev. James Rogers of Rainscombe, near Marlborough, Wiltshire, by his marriage to Catherine, youngest daughter and co-heir of Francis Newman, Esquire, of Cadbury House, Somerset.
His son, also named James Rogers Armstrong, took over the family business in 1856, when his father retired to Whitby.
Nana married James Rogers, great-grandson of actor and comedian Will Rogers, at the Will Rogers State Park in 2007.
