The second son of Mervyn Tuchet, 2nd Earl of Castlehaven, by his marriage to Elizabeth Barnham, and a younger brother of James Tuchet, 3rd Earl of Castlehaven, Touchet began life as George Tuchet in Stalbridge, Dorset.
After the death of her husband she was either betrothed to or lived as the mistress of Edmund Holland, 4th Earl of Kent (9 January 1382 – 15 September 1408), and had a daughter by him, Eleanor Holland (died c. 1459), who married James Tuchet, 5th Baron Audley.
James Tuchet, 3rd Earl of Castlehaven (c. 1617 – 11 October 1684) was the son of Mervyn Tuchet, 2nd Earl of Castlehaven and his first wife, Elizabeth Barnham (1592 – c. 1622).

He died sine prole 11 October 1686, at Kilcash Castle, County Tipperary, Ireland and was succeeded in the Earldom by his youngest brother Mervyn.
The two forces clashed in the Battle of Blore Heath on 23 September 1459 and Audley was killed by Sir Roger Kynaston of Stocks near Ellesmere (Kynaston incorporated emblems of the Audley coat-of-arms into his own).

Audley's Cross still stands on the battlefield to this day, and marks the spot where he died.
Audley married secondly, about Michaelmas 1488, Joan Bourchier (d. 3 March 1532), daughter of Fulk Bourchier, 10th Baron FitzWarin, and Elizabeth Dynham, by whom he had a son, John Tuchet.
