During the latter part of this period, Bob served on NASA's Ad Hoc Science Working Group and ESA's Study Science Team as they developed the instrument concepts for the James Webb Space Telescope, the next generation space observatory.

He led the experiment design and development team for the Multiband Imaging Photometer for Spitzer (MIPS) instrument on NASA's infrared Spitzer Space Telescope, and currently co-chairs the science team of the Mid-Infrared Instrument for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
Some NASA projects using it include the James Webb Space Telescope, Swift's Burst Alert Telescope, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, LCROSS, the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES-R), and the SCaN Testbed, previously know as the Communications, Navigation, and Networking Reconfigurable Testbed (CoNNeCT).
In May, 2013, the company's Simga Strut was selected by Northrop Grumman for use on the James Webb Space Telescope(JWST).
