He became interested in the theatre after seeing his uncle, former Yiddish theatre actor Wolfe Barzell, perform in the 1948 play Skipper Next to God by Jan de Hartog.
Mohr was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematographer for his work on The Fourposter (1952), a film based on a play of the same name, written by Jan de Hartog.
Its creation is largely attributed to the publication of Jan de Hartog's novel The Hospital, which described the horrific conditions of the Jeff Davis Charity Hospital.
