In 1962 he defeated Republican Jack Redman, also an Albuquerque High School alum.
He also presided over the nuptials of Ms. Lynda Jean Montoya, daughter of Senator Joseph N. Montoya of New Mexico, member of the Senate Watergate Committee at the university’s Dahlgren Chapel.
