In 1954, after Shafer's death just two weeks after being nominated unopposed in the Republican Party primary election for Michigan's 3rd congressional district, Johansen was elected to replace Shafer in the 84th United States Congress.
Franz M. Johansen (born 1928 in Huntsville, Utah) is a Latter-day Saint sculptor and an emeritus professor at Brigham Young University (BYU).
He has composed melodies for some of Poul F. Joensen's poems, first time was in 1988, when he released his album Gaman og álvara; Poul F. (1898-1970) wrote poems about the Faroese society, about love and other themes as well.
In 2006 on Jacob Sande's 100 years anniversary, the Faroese singer and composer Hanus G. Johansen released an album with poems by Jakob Sande, which Hanus G. had composed melodies for.
