James H. Ferriss was born November 18, 1849 in Kendall Township, Kendall County, Illinois, Ferriss moved to southeastern Kansas in 1869 to stake a claim as a farmer, freighter, and storekeeper.
Kendall was the editor of the Frankfort, Kentucky newspaper, and went on to be an important advisor to President Andrew Jackson.

In the fall of 1835, Daniel S. Gray, from Montgomery County, New York, visited the area where his brother Nicholas Gray had located in the previous spring, on a farm now within the limits of Kendall County.
The present "West Side" school district covers the city of Aurora with an eastern boundary of the Fox River, a southern boundary of the Kane County and Kendall County line, a western boundary of Aurora's city limits, and a northern boundary of the village limits of North Aurora, Illinois.
It ranged from Oswego, IL (Kendall County) to possibly Kankakee River State Park (KRSP) in Will County, Illinois.
