Say supported the city of Rochester, Chatham, Kent County Cricket Club, the University of Kent (serving as Pro Chancellor for several years) and, more recently, Canterbury itself.

Frank Inglis

Inglis was the fourth child of Alfred Markham Inglis (1856–1919) (a banker who had previously played cricket for Kent) and Ernestine (Nina) May Pigou (1863–1941).


Basil Swyer

Swyer made a single first-class appearance, in a County Championship match in 1923 against Kent, in which he bowled thirteen overs in a match which saw centuries from Kent pair Wally Hardinge and James Seymour.

Bob Haines

Having played for the Kent Second XI in 1924, Haines joined Glamorgan nearly a decade later, making his first-class debut for the Welsh county against Nottinghamshire in the 1933 County Championship.

In a game against Kent at the Bat and Ball Ground in Gravesend, Wright declared Nottinghamshire's second innings closed on 157 for 5 to set Kent a target of 231 to win.

Eddie Crush

As well as being a lifelong member of the Kent County Cricket Club he was also a member (President 1996–2007) of the Kent Hoppers Tie Club which was founded by his very dear cricketing friends Hopper Levett and Les Ames.

Hartley Alleyne

Hartley Leroy Alleyne (born 28 February 1957 in Derricks, St James) is a former Barbadian cricketer: a right-handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler who played for Barbados, Worcestershire, Kent and Natal between 1978-79 and 1989-90.

He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Kent, Derbyshire, Cornwall and Dorset between 1974 and 1991.

Leicestershire County Cricket Club in 2005

Leicestershire hosted the International 20:20 Club Championship in the middle of September, and after progressing to the semi-finals thanks to a win over Somerset Sabres, they were defeated by nine runs by Chilaw Marians, before rounding off the season with a rare Championship win over Lancashire and a League win over Kent.

Merrik Ward

Ward made three County Championship appearances the following season, where Ward made his two highest scores of 47* against Gloucestershire and his highest score of 48 against Kent, a match in which Ward captained Hampshire in the absence of Lord Tennyson.

Ravinder Senghera

There were a couple of minor bright spots only: he hit a fighting 36 not out as part of an unbroken last-wicket stand of 58 with Norman Gifford (30*) against Gloucestershire, and he also took the first of only two career one-day wickets when he dismissed Kent's John Shepherd in June.

Reginald Hargreaves

Hargreaves made his first-class debut for Hampshire against Kent at Catford Bridge in June 1875, scoring 9 and 1 and taking no wickets as Kent won by an innings inside two days.

The ground has hosted 2 further List-A matches involving Wiltshire, against Ireland in the 2002 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was played in 2001 and Kent in the 2005 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy.

Simon Halliday

This was when he scored 113 not out against Kent in 1982, with a bowling lineup consisting of English Test cricketers Graham Dilley and Bob Woolmer.

Steven Kirby

Called up after the match had started to replace a test bound Matthew Hoggard, Kirby skittled Kent to claim 7 for 50.

Tom Burrows

Burrows' first class debut match in May 2005 against Kent he helped Shane Warne towards his maiden first-class century, making 42 from number eight in a stand of 131 with Warne, and two months later he debuted in Twenty20 cricket, but was not called upon to bat as Hampshire lost to Sussex by ten runs.

Prior spent the 1976 English cricket season playing English club cricket, as well as stints for the Kent Second XI and DH Robins' XI.
