The station was opened on 10 July 2009 by King Mohammed VI, together with the town's other station Nador South and the line to Tawrirt.
She is the wife of King Mohammed VI and the first wife of a Moroccan ruler to have been publicly acknowledged and given a royal title.

Salma married King Mohammed VI on 12 October 2001 (sadaq) and on 21 March 2002 (zafaf), at the Dar al-Makhzin, Rabat, and was granted the title of "Princess" with the style of Royal Highness on her marriage.
It was officially founded on October 17, 2001 under a royal decree of King Mohammed VI (Dahir (royal decree) number 1-01-299).
