After returning briefly to Europe, he went back to Japan and for a period of ten years he studied Japanese language at Ōsaka Foreign Studies University and later History of Japanese thinking at Tokyo's Kokugakuin University, one of the most prestigious schools in the field of Japanese Classical Studies.
He graduated from Kokugakuin University and worked as an assistant to Diet members Takashi Fukaya and Ichiro Shimamura before entering politics in 1975 as a member of the Edogawa city assembly.
Ikeda was born in Tokyo and began studying aikido in 1968 while attending college at Kokugakuin University in Tokyo.
