Open to the sky, its four inner sloping walls featured giant sculptures of a sun dial, hour glass, compass and Kyogen and Haida masks.
After returning to Japan he took over the Japan Mime Studio where he incorporated older more established movement based theatre forms of his country, such as Noh, Kyogen, Bunraku, Kabuki and Japanese traditional dance, into his work and teaching of mime.
Although Takahashi has been most visibly active in the realm of free verse poetry, he has also written traditional Japanese verse (both tanka and haiku poetry), novels, Nō and Kyōgen plays, reworkings of ancient Greek dramas and epic poetry, many works of literary criticism, and a libretto for an opera by the contemporary Japanese composer Akira Miyoshi.
