When emperor Lý Thánh Tông died in 1072 she and thái sư (chancellor) Lý Đạo Thành were appointed regents for 7-year old son Lý Nhân Tông, the son born to Lý Thánh Tông by his concubine, the second queen Ỷ Lan.
The Văn chỉ hall at the right of the main hall is used for the worship of Lý Đạo Thành and Tô Hiến Thành, two high-ranking civil mandarin officers who served the Lý Dynasty.
Initially, the regency of the young emperor was placed in the hand of the chancellor (Vietnamese: thái sư) Lý Đạo Thành and the Empress Mother Thượng Dương but she was soon dismissed by Lý Nhân Tông after the influence from the emperor's natural mother Ỷ Lan.
