Acton, Australian Capital Territory

A low bridge and causeway was erected in 1911, at the site of the original river ford in an area subsequently inundated by Lake Burley Griffin.

Acton covers an area west of the CBD, bordered by Black Mountain to the west and Lake Burley Griffin in the south.

Barton, Australian Capital Territory

Parks in Barton include Telopea Park, York Park, Bowen Park which is on the south shore of Lake Burley Griffin, and Grevillea Park on the north side of the lake.

Kingston, Australian Capital Territory

The most recent development is the Kingston Foreshores development in which large numbers of high-value apartments are being built along the foreshores of Lake Burley Griffin.

Reid, Australian Capital Territory

Separating the suburbs of Reid and Campbell is ANZAC Parade, a ceremonial boulevarde running along Canberra's primary design axis (the ceremonial axis) from Lake Burley Griffin to the Australian War Memorial.

Jerrabomberra Creek

Prior to reaching Lake Burley Griffin, the creek flows through a series of significant artificially-formed wetlands, called the Jerrabomberra Wetlands, with an estimated 170 bird species, including the migratory Latham’s Snipe; and eleven fish species, as well as the Eastern Water rat, platypus and Eastern Snake-necked tortoise.
