McPherson had previously played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League for the Brampton Battalion and the Belleville Bulls and then spent six years at Lakehead University before signing his first professional contract with Braehead in 2011.
Singh also holds academic appointments at several institutions, including Queen's University, the University of Toronto, Laurentian University, and Lakehead University and speaks frequently at medical events across North America.

In honor of her commitment, through the endowment of scholarships and bursaries of over 1 million dollars for students at the Lakehead University campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, (NOSM), the facility which houses the West Campus of the NOSM Health Sciences Library is now called the Dr. Serafina "Penny" Petrone Health Information Resource Centre.
Born in Uxbridge, Ontario, Zoet's college career consisted of playing time both in the USA for Kent State University and in Canada for Lakehead University.
