Lathrop was born in 1865 in Lapeer County, Michigan to Eugene Lathrop and Susan Miriah Parsons Lathrop.
The Detroit–Bay City Railroad Company Columbiaville Depot, currently known as the Columbiaville Rotary Club and Public Library, is a former train station located at 4643 First Street in the village of Columbiaville in Marathon Township in northwestern Lapeer County, Michigan.
In 1846, he moved with his parents to Addison County, Vermont, and two years later they moved to Elba Township, Michigan.
The first settler in Lapeer was Alvin N. Hart, who was born in Cornwall, Connecticut on February 11, 1804.
