To his surprise on his way home though, he comes across a park he hadn't remembered before and sees a beautiful woman there, one that reminds him strikingly of an older Sheeta from Laputa: Castle in the Sky!
Semper created the English-language dialogue for two of Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed animated features, Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) and Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), and co-wrote the screenplay for the live-action comedy, Class Act (1992).
The song came under suspicion because of its similarity to "The Girl Who Fell from the Sky", from the soundtrack in Studio Ghibli's animated film Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
Barbara Kosta, author of Recasting Autobiography: Women's Counterfictions in Contemporary German Literature and Film, states that The Future of Emily, along with Laputa, "pursues traditional narrative patterns" compared to Germany, Pale Mother, and "lapses further into awkward melodrama".
