Ruan Lingyu

It was Ruan's first major work after signing for the newly formed Lianhua Studio in 1930.


Diantong Film Company

As a developer of sound-recorders, Diantong was pivotal in bringing to Chinese audiences some of the earliest sound-films, including the Lianhua Film Company-produced Song of the Fishermen (dir. Cai Chusheng).

Peach Blossom Weeps Tears of Blood

The film was produced by the Lianhua Film Company, and proved an early success for the studio, in no small part due to the on screen combination of Jin and Ruan, the so called "Valentino" and "Garbo" of Shanghai cinema, and who starred together in several vehicles before Ruan's suicide in 1935.

Shi Dongshan

By the early 1930s, Shi was one of the leading directors for the left-leaning Lianhua Film Company, along with Cai Chusheng, Sun Yu and others.
