He was buried in a cemetery in Gunnersbury, a place in the London Borough of Hounslow, in 1954, and finally his relics were transferred to a pantheon of Ukrainian historical figures at South Bound Brook, New Jersey in 1978.

He served as a member of Hounslow Borough Council from 1986–90 and was elected to Parliament at the 1992 general election when he unseated the sitting Conservative MP Patrick Ground.
The songs were inspired by Johnson's memories of living in the London borough of Hounslow, where he was a resident for around fifty years, ranging from childhood memories of watching Brentford F.C. with his father to more modern incidents.
