Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he received his AB in English from Georgetown University in 1974, a Diploma in Film from the London Film School in 1976, and an MA with honors from the University of Michigan (Dearborn) in 1999.
Paul Donovan was trained as a director at the London Film School; Michael graduated from Dalhousie University’s Law School and began as a producer of Paul’s film projects.
After leaving the Royal Navy in 1974, Lees-Spalding was appointed Administrator of the London International Film School.
Her daughter currently lives in London and studies MA Filmmaking at the prestigious London Film School.

Later she studied film directing at the London Film School and in 2005 her 6th term graduation film, the nine-minute Vado a messa (“I’m going to Mass”), was screened during a “Cinema Schools” special event at the 62nd Venice International Film Festival.
Land Gold Women is a 2011 English-language film written and directed by Avantika Hari, a graduate of the London Film School.
