In November, 1899 he moved to London to work at the new London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine under Patrick Manson.
Albert Dock Seamen's Hospital - initial site for the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the Hospital for Tropical Disease, situated as they were close to the disembarkation point from the British Empire.
In retirement he became Deputy Chairman of the Committee established in 1898 to provide for the efficient organisation and management of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

The London School of Tropical Medicine was established here in October 1899, by Sir Patrick Manson with assistance from the British Secretary of State for the Colonies (Joseph Chamberlain).
He began to work on tropical medicine at the School of Tropical Medicine at the Albert Dock Seamen's Hospital, Albert Dock.
Under his leadership the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine received the 2009 Award for Global Health from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation worth $1m, for sustained commitment to improving the health of poor people, having been selected from 106 nominations worldwide by an international jury of experts.
In 2011, IHME co-sponsored the first Global Health Metrics & Evaluation conference in Seattle with The Lancet, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Harvard School of Public Health, and University of Queensland School of Population Health.
Following this he attended other courses in several Universities, including Health Planning in University of Toronto, Canada; Health Economics in London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, University of London, Management Training in Central Officer Training Institute in Seoul, Korea, and Advanced Management in Harvard Business School, Harvard University, USA.
After receiving his Master's degree in 1979, he spent a year interning at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, the Johnson Space Center in Houston, and the Biomath department at Oxford University.
