Evelyn Byng, Viscountess Byng of Vimy (January 11, 1870 – June 20, 1949), also known as Lady Byng, was the wife of Lord Byng, the twelfth Governor General of Canada.
When Sir Patrick Duncan refused a dissolution to his Prime Minister in South Africa in 1939, all these conditions were satisfied: when Lord Byng did the same in Canada in 1926, they appeared to be, but in the event the third proved illusory.
Commissioners Sir William Horwood and Lord Byng both objected to this, as did the Police Federation, claiming that people may feel intimidated into buying tickets and that it detracted from the dignity of the rank.
