Roches Stores caused huge controversy in the 1970s and early 1980s when it demolished Frescati House in Blackrock, the home of Lord Edward FitzGerald.
Wyndham's mother, Iris Bennett, was an ex-débutante, and her father, Guy Richard Charles ("Dick") Wyndham (1896–1948), son of Guy Percy Wyndham, was an aristocrat whose ancestors included Lord Edward FitzGerald, the 18th-century Irish revolutionary.
In Hamburg he befriended Lord Edward FitzGerald and acted as an intermediary between the Irish and the French before the rebellion of 1798.
He remarried on 21 November 1820 to Pamela FitzGerald (1795/1796 - 25 November 1869), the eldest daughter of Lord Edward FitzGerald and Pamela Syms.
