Polish leader Józef Piłsudski has written a note of personal thanks to Hoover; one of the streets in Warsaw has been named after him; he also received honorary degrees from the Jagiellonian University, Warsaw University and Lviv University, among other honors (such as several honorary citizenships of various Polish towns).
On November 13, 1990 Ivan Vakarchuk was elected the rector of Lviv State University named after Ivan Franko (current name - Lviv National University named after Ivan Franko) and worked till November 2007.
Karpa finished her school with a gold medal and has two higher education diplomas: Lviv Medical University (former medical campus of Lviv University) and the English Philology of Lviv Polytechnic.
He was a professor of Lviv University (since 1907), member of Polish Academy of Learning (since 1919), chairman of Polish Historical Society (1923–1932; 1934–1936), senator from Non-partisan Bloc for Cooperation with the Government (1928–1935).
He is the son of Ivan Vakarchuk, a professor of physics at Lviv University and the former Minister of Education and Science in Ukraine.
