Nikesh Kumar is the son of M. V. Raghavan, UDF leader and the leader of a breakaway Communist group known as Communist Marxist Party (CMP).
Raghavan was born in Adyar, Chennai and spent his early years in many villages of Chengalpet District because of the frequent transfers of his father in his job.
In 1963, he edited and translated Bhoja's Śṛṅgāra-prakāśa, a treatise in 36 chapters dealing with both poetics and dramaturgy, and the largest known work in Sanskrit poetics.
