Its current northern terminus is east of the junction of Autoroute 55 in Saint-Wenceslas, and its southern terminus is at the border of Maine in the USA, where it continues as Maine State Route 27.
The border crossing of Woburn-Coburn Gore is located roughly five kilometres from the town centre, linking Quebec Route 161 with Maine State Route 27.

State Route 3 is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, running from Route 8, 11 and 27 in Augusta to an intersection with Route 102 in the village of Somesville in the town of Mount Desert, on Mount Desert Island.
