Melchor de Concha y Toro

In 1883, the Marquis Melchor de Concha y Toro entered the wine-making industry by deciding to plant wineries in the valley of the Maipo River.


La Moneda Palace

Works on the building started in 1784, with building materials arriving the following year from around Chile and the world: limestone from the Polpaico country estate; sand from the Maipo River; red stones from a quarry at the Cerro San Cristóbal in Santiago; white stone from the neighbouring Cerro Blanco; oak and cypress wood from Valdivia; Spanish metal works from Vizcaya.

Mapocho River

From the southern portion of Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, the river turns south, to its outfall into the Maipo River.

San Antonio, Chile

The city lies on hills and coastal dunes, immediately north of the mouth of the Maipo River and is crossed in two sections by estuaries, of Arévalo to the north and of El Sauce in the section of Llolleo.
