The type locality of Drymaeus branneri is above Porto Velho along the Madeira-Mamoré railroad (= ca. 260 km South-West of Porto Velho), Rondônia, Brazil.
The island lies in the Rio Mamoré, which defines part of the boundary between the two South American nations.
Above the rapids the river is navigable to Chimore, at the foot of the sierra, and most of its tributaries are navigable for long distances.

The Guapore also rivals the Mamore in length and volume, having its source in the Parecis plateau, Mato Grosso, Brazil, a few miles from streams flowing north-ward to the Tapajos and Amazon, and southward to the Paraguay and Paraná rivers.
Santa Ana is the capital of the Yacuma Province and the Santa Ana del Yacuma Municipality, located at an elevation of 144 m above sea level, where the Yacuma River meets the Mamoré River.
The original city was on the Mamoré River, but flooding and disease forced a move on the location of the city.

30 km before joining the Mamoré River at the Bolivia-Brazil border, the rapids of Cachuela Esperanza interrupt the upstream navigability of the river.
