In 1988, keyboardist Alan Fitzgerald left Night Ranger, shortly after the recording of Man in Motion.
The song "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" was written in his honor by Canadian record producer and composer David Foster and British musician John Parr and performed by Parr for the soundtrack of the film St. Elmo's Fire.
However, an earlier soundtrack hit, Parr's #1 hit of the previous summer "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" from the film of the same title (and also on the Atlantic label) was not included on this album, which may have limited its sales (the album failed to crack the Top 200 in the U.S.).
In addition to coaching basketball, Jones was head coach of the Chicago Bears from 1930–33, where, among other achievements, he was credited with the revival of the T-formation and the use of a man in motion to throw off the defense.
The township of Hansen was originally named Stalin after Joseph Stalin, but was renamed in 1986 when Ontario MPP Yuri Shymko successfully had a private member's bill passed through the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to rename the township in honour of athlete Rick Hansen, who was in the midst of his international Man in Motion tour at the time.
