Aokautere

It is situated in the cliffs on the south banks of the Manawatu River.

Fonterra

In 2006, Forest and Bird asked Fonterra to 'clean up its act', instead of obtaining consent to continue to discharge 8,500 cubic metres per day of wastewater into the Manawatu River.

Foxton Branch

At the mouth of the Manawatu River, the settlement of Foxton was seen in the 1860s as a possible port for the Manawatu region.

Hokowhitu

The area's boundaries, starting from the North is Hokowhitu West (Te Awe Awe St); to the East by Hokowhitu East (Albert St) ; to the South by the Manawatu River and to the West by West End (Fitzherbert Ave)

It was thickly wooded at the time and the upper reaches and tributaries of the Manawatu River provided engineering difficulties.

There have been many attempts made to eradicate these problems for example, in New Zealand, the cordgrass Spartina anglica was introduced from England into the Manawatu River mouth in 1913 to try and reclaim the estuary land for farming.

The suburb is located in the south east part of the city on a bend in the Manawatu River and had a resident population of 2,940 (2001)
