Arthur William Moore CVO SHK JP MA (1853–1909) was a Manx antiquarian, historian, linguist, folklorist, and former Speaker of the House of Keys in the Isle of Man.
One historic event said to have taken place here in 1134 was a battle between Owain Gwynedd, the first king of Wales and the armies of the Erse, Manx, and Norsemen, who had invaded the island.
Stan Corlett (Director at Mercantile) previously served as a councillor for Wokingham and had also taught economics at Ashridge Business School in Hertfordshire returned to the Isle of Man in 1976 at the age of 43 with the mission of finding a way to "Give a voice to the Manx people".
