On 28 December the system moved eastward, bringing with it heavy rainfall to the Roper-McArthur River districts.
Ellengowan remained a shipwreck for four years until she was eventually raised in 1885 by Charles Stuart Copeland, who intended to use the vessel to supply camps along the Roper and McArthur Rivers.

The McArthur River zinc mine, a zinc, lead and silver mine about 70 km south-west of Borroloola, is operated by McArthur River Mining (MRM), which is wholly owned by the Swiss mining company Xstrata.
