Mathrafal

Mathrafal near Welshpool, in Powys, Mid Wales, was the seat of the Kings and Princes of Powys probably from the 9th century until its destruction in 1212 by Llywelyn ap Iorwerth of Gwynedd.


1985 Grand National

Twenty-five years after jockey Hywel Davies' win, his hometown of Cardigan in Mid Wales held a commemorative dinner to celebrate the anniversary of his Grand National victory.

Glyndŵr's Way

Running in a horse-shoe shape, it passes small market towns such as Llanidloes and quiet villages including Abbeycwmhir and Llanfyllin, traversing central Mid Wales to Machynlleth near the Dyfi estuary and back again across Wales via Lake Vyrnwy and the valley of the River Vyrnwy to Welshpool, close to the English border.

John Charleton split his last years between his properties at Apley Castle in Shropshire, Charlton Hall in Shrewsbury (the site now occupied by the theatre) and Powis Castle in Mid-Wales.

Llanfaredd Halt railway station

Llanfaredd Halt railway station was an unstaffed railway station on the Mid Wales and Cambrian railway line (later the Great Western), between Builth Wells Station and Erwood railway station.

Morda

It is named after the River Morda, which, with the River Tanat, is one of the first major tributaries joining the River Severn as it wends its way from its birthplace on Plynlimon, mid-Wales, to the Bristol Channel.

Morriston

The heart of transport in Morriston is located in the town centre, which contains a large car park, a wealth of parking spaces within the hear of the retail district, contains numerous bus stops ranging of bus services to nearby Swansea, Clydach, Parc Gwernfadog, other areas of Morriston and even to mid-Wales and England.

Nancy Durham

In 2003 she and her husband the Oxford Philosopher of Science, W.H Newton-Smith, planted a field of lavender on their farm in mid Wales, the first to do so in Wales on a field scale.
