As head coach of Ball State's men's volleyball program, he won 20 Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) titles in 34 seasons.

Haley was a setter at Ball State under legendary coach Don Shondell and helped the Cardinals to the 1964 and 1965 MIVA title.
