The paper is the home of cartoonist Mike Peters, who draws the Mother Goose and Grimm strip and won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning in 1981, and columnist Dale Huffman, who had written a daily metro column every day for more than eight years before beginning a hiatus on January 30, 2008 after he was diagnosed with kidney cancer.
In 2003, Chippendale founded cancer charity the Love Hope Strength Foundation (LSHF) with fellow survivor Mike Peters, a Welsh rock musician with The Alarm.
Most recently he has been involved with three main projects; his own roots-rock trio, Dead Men Walking with Kirk Brandon, Mike Peters and Captain Sensible and The Head Cat starring Lemmy and Danny B. Harvey.
It also has cameo appearances from past pop and rock stars such as Mike Peters (The Alarm ), Steve Diggle (The Buzzcocks), Jynine James and Tim Sanders (The City Zones).
Together, the four musicians recorded demos, toured up and down the California coast, and stormed the UK with shows all over England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, which culminated in an opening slot that saw Travis performing onstage with his musical hero, Mike Peters of The Alarm.
In an interview with BBC News Online, Mike Peters said "The Alarm, most famous for their 1983 hit '68 Guns', were not taken seriously by DJs" because of a combination of the age of the band's members and a perception that their image was outdated.
He is currently manager/tour manager for Los Mondo Bongo (celebrating the music of Joe Strummer) which includes Joe Strummer's post-Clash bandmates Pablo Cook (percussion) and Smiley Culture/Steve Barnard (drums) from The Mescaleros, as well as bassist Derek Forbes (Simple Minds), guitarist Steve Harris (Gary Numan) and vocalist Mike Peters (The Alarm), plus Ray Gange of Rude Boy film fame DJing.
Disc two Black and Disc three Gold contained the entire Saturday evening performance from Mike Peters and the band: James Stevenson - Guitar, Steve Grantley - drums, and Craig Adams - bass.
