During the War of the Ring, Peregrin Took, a companion of Aragorn's in The Fellowship of the Ring, became a member of the elite Citadel Guard at Minas Tirith, capital of Gondor.

Ithilien

Emyn Arnen, a series of hills at the centre of Ithilien, south of Osgiliath, stands opposite Minas Tirith across Anduin; around it the river makes a bend.

Level 9 Computing

The three titles became known as the Middle-earth trilogy, with a reference in the instructions to Dungeon Adventure to the city of Minas Tirith, which features in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

In letters to Rayner Unwin Tolkien considered naming the two as Orthanc and Barad-dûr, Minas Tirith and Barad-dûr, or Orthanc and the Tower of Cirith Ungol.
