The Missouri State Guard troops were successful in their campaign to force the Union Army to abandon southwestern Missouri and to concentrate on holding the Missouri Valley.
The 17 different USTA sections include New England, Eastern, Middle States, Mid-Atlantic, Southern, Florida, Caribbean, Midwest, Northern, Missouri Valley, Texas, Southwest, Intermountain, Pacific Northwest, Northern California, Southern California, Hawaii Pacific.
In southern Sac County it turns southwestward and flows through Crawford, Harrison and Pottawattamie Counties, past the towns of Deloit, Denison, Arion, Dow City, Dunlap, Woodbine, Logan and Missouri Valley.

Most notable because the Buffalo Bulls unanimously voted to decline a bid to the game (eventually filled by Missouri Valley) when they were notified that the team's two black players would not be allowed to play in the game.
In 1951 Drake withdrew as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, along with Bradley as a result of the lack of action taken by the Missouri Valley Conference against Oklahoma A&M in the Johnny Bright Incident.
On May 19, 1904, the first telephone was installed in Joppa and in 1911, the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Company out of Leavenworth, Kansas built an iron bridge across the river.
