Noticed by the Marquis de Marigny, brother of Mme de Pompadour and general director of the Bâtiments du Roi, de Wailly worked in the park of Marigny's Château de Menars and, thanks to his support, managed to obtain the commission of a new theatre for the Comédie-Française.
Mme de Pompadour saw it while living in Étiolles - before being raised by the royal favour, and dreamed of this splendid residence.
Many of his poems (written in Béarnese dialect) are famous traditional folk songs from Béarn and 17th century opera singer Pierre Jélyotte interpreted some of them for the mistress of the King of France Mme de Pompadour and the Royal Court.
Lazare Duvaux (c1703 — 24 November 1758) was a Parisian marchand-mercier, among the most prominent designers and purveyors of furnishings, gilt-bronze-mounted European and Chinese porcelains, Vincennes porcelain and later Sèvres porcelain and all the small, refined luxuries that appealed to Mme de Pompadour, one of his most prominent clients, who entrusted the furnishing of her many châteaux to Duvaux.
