As a botanist, Father Soulié collected more than 7,000 species, among them Rosa soulieana, a species of endemic Rosa, which was introduced in Europe by Auguste Louis Maurice de Vilmorin, and studied by Museum d'histoire naturelle in Paris, and then by François Crépin in 1896.
A school friend of Paul Cézanne's in Aix, Antoine Fortuné Marion went on to become professor and director of the Natural History Museum in Marseille.
In 1846 with Jean Baptiste Vérany (1800–1865) he founded the Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Nice where wax casts of thousands of mushrooms he made or had made were exhibited.
He closed his shop in 1847 when he gained the post of Conservateur at Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Grenoble :fr:Muséum d'histoire naturelle de Grenoble to the detriment of Albin Crépu (1799–1859).
