He graduated in 1989 and was thereafter posted to Kaduna State, North West Nigeria, where he participated in the one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps at Water Survey (Nig) Ltd.
His plays, poems, short stories and commentaries were broadcast on Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria(FRCN) network programs, before he officially joined the network as a reporter and an editor after the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps, in Abuja, Nigeria.
One week after his election, political opponents claimed that Bankole had not completed his National Youth Service Corps (N.Y.S.C) service, which is mandatory for all Nigerian university graduates under thirty years of age when they graduate, and called for his resignation over the issue.
