Based on the terms of the treaty, the Nawab of Arcot (sometimes called the Nawab of the Carnatic) ceded all his lands to British rule, including the territory of the polygars.
Early in 1740, therefore, the Marathas appeared in the south with a vast army, and defeated and killed the Nawab of Arcot (Dost Ali Khan) in the pass of Damalcheruvu, now in Chittoor district.

The local representative of the Mughal was the Nawab of Arcot, Dost Ali Khan and an intermediate authority was held by the Nizam of Hyderabad, who was in theory both a subordinate of the emperor, and the superior of the Nawab.
So, with him, the first dynasty of the Nawabs of Arcot came to an end and as a result Anwaruddin Khan was confirmed in his position as Nawab by Nizam ul Mulk Asaf Jah I.
In 1754, after Muhammed Ali had finally established himself as the Nawab of Arcot, Col. Alexander Hamilton was appointed to lead the troops that would establish his rule in Tirulneveli.
