Dublin is located on North Carolina Highway 87 and is known as the "Peanut Capital of North Carolina."
Elwell Ferry is an inland cable ferry which has operated since 1905 on Elwell Ferry Road between NC Highway 53 and NC Highway 87, crossing the Cape Fear River and connecting the communities of Carvers Creek and Kelly in Bladen County, North Carolina.
After a long, straight stretch, the route intersects US 311, NC 87 and NC 770 (Harrington Highway) just before it crosses the Dan River and enters Eden.
In 2000, NC 700 was truncated at NC 14/NC 87/NC 770 when all state highways was removed from central Eden.
In 1964 or 1965, NC 902 was extended east to its current eastern terminus at US 64/NC 87, in Pittsboro.
There are no big stores in the area except for a Hand Dee Hugo's at the intersection of NC 87 and US Highway 17 South.
