It has been in continuous existence since 28 September 1964, mostly as a brightly coloured A2 sheet, with premises originally in Warnborough Road, North Oxford.
The Playhouse was originally founded as The Red Barn at 12 Woodstock Road, North Oxford, in 1923 by J. B. Fagan.
Number 66 Banbury Road in North Oxford was designed by the architect Frederick Codd and dates from 1869 (with 1960s and later additions including a modern student refectory).
This linked Water Eaton and Oxford, and a short section of this path (at the bottom of Harpes Road, Islip Road and Victoria Road in North Oxford) is called Water Eaton Road.
The main one was built in 1966 and was located at the northern end of St Giles' in central north Oxford.
It will serve Kidlington, north Oxford and nearby villages, and attract park-and-ride traffic from the busy A34, A40 and A44 roads.
